The Journey Begins !
(November, 13)
From ‘CONGO to
KALAHARI’ is a part of ‘The World’s Longest Journey’ dedicated to malaria,
taken on in one-and-the-same faithful Land Rover Defender. From ‘CONGO to
KALAHARI’ is a gruelling journey setting off from the Congo Basin in west
equatorial Africa through to the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. In this
‘Day-by-day’ blog-journal, this astonishing feat to save thousands of lives
undertaken by the Brit David M.C. Robertson at the wheel of his trustworthy
Land Rover Defender, is revealed. Covering some 8.057 miles (12.967 Km), more
often than not off the beaten track, and facing the African challenges, this ‘Drive’
takes on unknown turning points in life. Robertson’s main focus is to reach the
most vulnerable people, ensuring that they receive quality malaria protection
and medication that can help cure thousands. How does one reach those suffering
in a massive rain-forest, where the roads turn into a mud quagmire as soon as it
rains? This is a gigantic trek. Putting it into perspective, it represents the combined
distance from the United Kingdom to Russia and back, with room to spare!
